Eric Church is looking back at the miles, venues, and memories that have shaped his career in a new song called “On The Road.”
The song arrives Thursday, September 10, via MCA and was written by Church and produced by his longtime collaborator Jay Joyce.
What Is Eric Church’s “On The Road” About?
“On The Road” traces Church’s career through memories of life on tour, including playing shows beneath the Northern Lights and sharing stages with artists who influenced the music he would eventually make himself.
The song also finds Church considering what it means to spend a career constantly moving forward while knowing that eventually another artist will follow the same path.
“Lookin’ back you think it’d seem so long, this winding path that I’ve been rollin’ on,” Church sings before later imagining a day when he will be “just a name on a wall, and some other cowboy will hear the call.”
“There’s something about a life on the road where the miles start to blur together, yet the people and the moments never do,” Church said. “Those are the things you carry with you. You realize how much of who you are was shaped somewhere between one town and the next, and maybe that’s why you never really stop wondering what’s waiting down the road.”
