Crisco began with a conversation between Lambert and producer Jesse Frasure about country music’s history and the artists and records that continue to influence them.
Lambert said they found themselves discussing why country music does not always look back at its own musical archive for inspiration, pointing to artists including Patsy Cline, Glen Campbell, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
What was originally intended to produce only a few songs eventually developed into a full album.
“We weren’t trying to make a retro record,” Lambert said. “We were channeling a feeling.”
That approach led Lambert and Frasure toward sweeping strings, layered harmonies, and countrypolitan production while still allowing the album to move beyond one particular sound.
Lambert said the project also gave her a chance to make music that felt lighter than some of the heavier subjects she has recorded throughout her career.
“This album feels mostly lighthearted,” Lambert said. “It’s refreshing to get up on stage and sing something fun.”
The album moves through heartbreak, humor, romance, resilience, regret, and wanderlust, with Lambert describing the overall goal as something that could feel nostalgic without simply looking backward.
Why Is Miranda Lambert’s Album Called Crisco?
The title plays on the combination of country and disco.
Lambert and her collaborators built a creative world around those two influences, pairing country traditions with elements inspired by the dance floor.
The concept carried into the recording sessions at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio, where Lambert and Frasure worked with a handpicked band and a nine-piece string section.
The title track captures that combination most directly, blending Lambert’s country roots with a playful dance-floor influence that runs through parts of the album.

Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum Release “Seven Year Ache”
Following the release of Crisco, Lambert surprised fans with a previously unreleased recording of Rosanne Cash’s “Seven Year Ache” featuring Parker McCollum.
The collaboration is available exclusively through iTunes for fans who download Crisco through 11:59 p.m. ET on October 8, 2026.
“Seven Year Ache” is not part of the standard 12-song Crisco track list.
The song marks another collaboration between Lambert and McCollum, two Texas natives who previously recorded “Santa Fe” together for Lambert’s Postcards from Texas album.
They have also performed together on multiple occasions, including the 2025 Band Together Texas benefit concert, which raised more than $8.5 million for flood relief efforts in Texas.
“I love making music with Parker because he’s the real deal,” Lambert said. “He’s such a natural artist and has that thing you can’t teach. He is authentically himself and you can feel that in his music.”
McCollum called Lambert a major influence on his career.
“Not only is she one of the most incredible songwriters we’ve got but is also hands-down one of my favorite Country voices ever,” McCollum said. “I'm honored any time I get the chance to work with and learn from her.”

Lambert has said she has stayed at the hotel for nearly 20 years and wanted the song to capture the memories and atmosphere she associates with the property.
An official visualizer features Lambert alongside a vintage red convertible surrounded by neon lights. “Sunset Marquis” is also connected to the documentary If These Walls Could Rock, which explores the history of the West Hollywood hotel.
