A 30-Year Thanksgiving Halftime Tradition

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Kickoff began in 1997 when Reba McEntire performed during the Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving Day game.

Since then, the halftime stage has welcomed some of music's biggest names, including Destiny's Child, Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez, Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, and Post Malone.

Charlotte Jones, chief brand officer and co-owner of the Dallas Cowboys, helped establish the partnership between the team and The Salvation Army nearly three decades ago.

“The Red Kettle Kickoff has become one of the Dallas Cowboys’ proudest traditions and one my family and our entire organization look forward to every Thanksgiving,” said Jones. “For 30 years, incredible artists have appeared on our halftime stage to help The Salvation Army bring hope to millions of people in need.”

Lambert's appearance marks the 30th consecutive year of the nationally televised performance, which has become a Thanksgiving tradition for football and music fans.

Supporting The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign

The 2026 performance also celebrates The Salvation Army's 136th Red Kettle Campaign.

Over the past three decades, the Thanksgiving halftime tradition has helped the campaign raise more than $3.4 billion to support individuals and families facing financial hardship.

The Salvation Army provides food assistance, emergency shelter, disaster relief, rehabilitation programs, and other services through nearly 7,600 centers of operation across the United States.

Donations made through the Red Kettle Campaign remain in the communities where they are collected, supporting local programs and services throughout the year.
