What Is Megan Moroney’s Cloud 9 Album About?
Cloud 9 captures a more confident side of Megan Moroney while continuing the personal songwriting that defined her first two albums.
When Moroney announced the project, she explained that the songs came from real experiences, but she was in a different place while writing them. She described herself as more secure in her artistry and said the album allowed her to experiment with her sound without moving away from what she and her fans already loved.
That range can be heard throughout the album. Songs including “Medicine” and “Wish I Didn’t” lean into humor and confidence, while “Beautiful Things” takes a more vulnerable approach. “Wedding Dress” had already developed a following among fans before the album was released.
The album also opens with its title track, “Cloud 9,” a love song that gives the record its name.
Who Produced Megan Moroney’s Cloud 9?
Kristian Bush produced 13 of the 15 songs on the original version of Cloud 9.
Moroney also stepped into a larger production role on the album. She and Luke Laird co-produced “Wedding Dress” and “Table for Two.” Kristian Bush provided additional production on “Wedding Dress.”
Moroney has worked extensively with Bush throughout her career, including on her previous albums.
Megan Moroney Cloud 9 Singles and Songs
Several songs from Cloud 9 were introduced before the album’s February 2026 release, including “6 Months Later,” “Beautiful Things,” “Wish I Didn’t,” and “Cloud 9.”
6 Months Later
“6 Months Later” became the biggest radio hit from the album’s rollout.
Moroney released the song in June 2025. It was written by Megan Moroney, Ben Williams, Rob Hatch, and David “Messy” Mescon and produced by Kristian Bush.
The song became Moroney’s third No. 1 at Country radio when it topped the Country Aircheck/Mediabase Airplay chart in January 2026. It also gave Moroney what was then her highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the Top 30 on the all-genre chart.
By September 2026, “6 Months Later” had been certified Platinum.
Beautiful Things
Moroney released “Beautiful Things” on October 23, 2025, after performing the song during her Am I Okay? Tour.
The song has an especially personal connection for Moroney. She wrote “Beautiful Things” for her young niece after thinking about how much she wanted to protect her from the difficult experiences that come with growing up.
Moroney wrote the song with Connie Harrington, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jessi Alexander. Kristian Bush produced the track.
“Beautiful Things” later appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 and was sent to Country radio.
Wish I Didn’t
“Wish I Didn’t” arrived January 15, 2026, as the third song released from Cloud 9.
Moroney co-wrote the song with Emily Weisband, Hillary Lindsey, and Luke Laird. Kristian Bush produced the track.
The accompanying music video features Dylan Efron and plays into the song’s warning about becoming involved with someone despite already recognizing the red flags.
Cloud 9
Moroney released the album’s title track on February 6, 2026, two weeks before the full album arrived.
Written by Moroney, Luke Laird, Jessie Jo Dillon, and ERNEST, “Cloud 9” opens the album and centers on the feeling of being completely caught up in a relationship.
Kristian Bush produced the track.
Medicine
“Medicine” became one of the songs highlighted by Moroney’s team when Cloud 9 was released.
Written by Moroney, Connie Harrington, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jessi Alexander, the song finds Moroney turning the tables on an ex and responding to bad behavior with some of her own.
The track also became part of the album’s early television rollout when Moroney performed “Medicine” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March 2026.
Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves on Cloud 9
Cloud 9 includes two featured artists.
Ed Sheeran joins Moroney on “I Only Miss You.” Moroney co-wrote the song with Sheeran, Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Micah Carpenter.
Kacey Musgraves appears on “Bells & Whistles,” written by Moroney, Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Micah Carpenter.
The two collaborations were revealed when Moroney announced the complete Cloud 9 track list in January 2026.
Megan Moroney’s Wedding Dress
“Wedding Dress” was already familiar to many Megan Moroney fans before Cloud 9 arrived.
Moroney had shared the unreleased song on social media, where it developed into a fan favorite before being confirmed for the album.
Moroney wrote “Wedding Dress” with Ben Williams and Colin Healy. The track is also significant because it is one of two songs on Cloud 9 co-produced by Moroney herself.
Moroney and Luke Laird produced the track, with additional production from Kristian Bush.
