For 21 years, Tracy Lawrence has made helping families in need a Thanksgiving tradition in Nashville. This November, the country singer is bringing his Mission Turkey Fry back to the Nashville Fairgrounds, with plans to feed 32,000 people across Middle Tennessee.
The annual event takes place Tuesday, November 24, 2026, with volunteers preparing 2,000 cooked turkeys and distributing another 2,000 frozen turkeys. The food will reach families and individuals through Nashville Rescue Mission, school systems in 11 surrounding counties, and local organizations that work directly with those in need.
“There are two things in this scenario that continue to resonate with me,” Lawrence said. “The first is the people in need. Every year, that need continues to grow. Whatever circumstances have brought these individuals to this point are not for me or anyone else to judge. I believe we are all called to help and do whatever we can to ease their suffering, even if only for a little while, without judgment or condemnation.”
Lawrence also emphasized the importance of recognizing the volunteers who contribute their time and resources each year.
How Last Year's Turkey Fry Became Its Biggest Ever
The announcement comes after a remarkable 20th anniversary event in 2025, when an unexpected setback brought out an overwhelming response from the Nashville community.
During last year's event, a refrigerated truck broke down, spoiling 650 of the 3,600 turkeys originally intended for distribution.
What could have been a devastating loss instead brought an outpouring of support.
Individuals, businesses, and organizations stepped forward, donating more than 2,400 additional turkeys. By the end of the event, Mission had distributed 5,350 cooked and frozen turkeys, providing more than 50,000 meals and making its 20th anniversary the largest event in its history.
Several country artists and entertainers also supported the effort, including Jamey Johnson, Dustin Lynch, Clint Black, Rhett Akins, Rodney Atkins, Tucker Wetmore, Charles Esten, Meghan Patrick, and others.
Two Decades of Giving Back
Lawrence launched Mission in 2006, beginning with a Thanksgiving turkey fry to help feed Nashville's homeless population.
What began as a local charitable effort has grown into an organization that has fried more than 15,000 turkeys, provided over 135,000 meals, and donated more than $1.3 million to Nashville Rescue Mission.
Mission has also raised more than $2.5 million to support its charitable work and expand its outreach.
In 2021, the organization introduced the Mission Celebrity Golf Classic, an annual spring fundraiser that has since raised more than $1.7 million.
Lawrence received the CRS Humanitarian Award in 2023 in recognition of his charitable efforts.
“I truly believe that if we all give back a little, we can make the world a better place,” Lawrence said. “It's not always about money. Sometimes, it's about leading by example. If what we've done with Mission inspires someone to do something similar in their own town, then we've made a difference.”
