Produced by Jacksonville State University, the documentary follows Owen’s journey from his childhood in Fort Payne, Alabama, to becoming the lead singer and songwriter behind one of the most successful groups in country music history.

The film combines personal reflections with footage of the Alabama landscapes that shaped Owen’s life and music. Family members, friends, and fellow artists also help tell his story, including Alabama founding member Teddy Gentry, Jamey Johnson, Riley Green, and others.

“I never imagined a kid from Fort Payne, Alabama would one day stand here, guitar in hand,” Owen says in the film.

Randy Owen Reflects on His Alabama Roots

Owen grew up working on his family’s farm near Fort Payne before attending Jacksonville State University as a first-generation college student. His musical influences included church music, gospel singings, family harmonies, and the literature he studied while earning his degree.

The film also traces the development of Alabama from the group’s early performances in Myrtle Beach to its emergence as one of the most influential acts in country music history.
