Grand Ole Opry to Honor Charley Pride With Special Show

The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate the life, music, and lasting influence of Country Music Hall of Fame member Charley Pride with a special tribute show this fall.

Opry 100 Honors Charley Pride is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The show will feature performances from Opry members Darius Rucker and Pam Tillis, along with Neal McCoy, Pride’s son Dion Pride, and additional artists to be announced.

“The Grand Ole Opry held a very special place in my father’s heart, and our family is deeply grateful to see his music and legacy celebrated on the stage he loved so much,” Dion Pride said. “It will be an honor to perform alongside artists who admired him and to share his songs with the fans who have kept them alive for generations.”

Charley Pride’s History With the Grand Ole Opry

Pride grew up listening to Grand Ole Opry broadcasts on WSM radio and made his Opry debut in 1967. He initially declined an invitation to become a member because of his demanding touring schedule but officially joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1993.

He remained one of the institution’s most respected members and ambassadors throughout the remainder of his career.

“Every single night Charley Pride came home to the Opry was an event,” Opry Executive Producer Dan Rogers said. “His performances were amazing. The crowd response was like no other. And the backstage area was always, always buzzing. Charley’s spirit and songs live on, and we’re so looking forward to celebrating both on the Opry stage in September.”

Tickets for Opry 100 Honors Charley Pride are on sale now through the Grand Ole Opry’s website.

For tickets purchased beginning July 16, $5 from every ticket sold for an Opry 100 Honors show will be donated to the Opry Trust Fund.

The organization has provided financial assistance to members of the country music community for more than 60 years, helping with medical expenses, emergencies, and other hardships.

Charley Pride’s Country Music Legacy

Pride became one of country music’s most successful and influential performers during a career that spanned more than five decades.

He recorded 29 No. 1 hits and 52 Top 10 singles, earned three Grammy Awards, and sold tens of millions of records around the world. He also became one of RCA Records’ best-selling artists.

His signature songs include “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” “All I Have to Offer You (Is Me),” “Mountain of Love,” “Burgers and Fries,” and “Roll On Mississippi.”

As one of country music’s first Black superstars, Pride broke barriers and opened doors for future generations of performers while building a career defined by his unmistakable voice and approachable stage presence.

Born in Sledge, Mississippi, Pride initially pursued a career in professional baseball before focusing on music. He signed with RCA Records during the mid-1960s and earned his breakthrough with “Just Between You and Me.”

In 1971, Pride received the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award and won the first of two consecutive Male Vocalist of the Year honors. That same period produced “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’,” which became one of his biggest country and crossover hits.

Pride was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. His additional honors include the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award and the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received in 2017.

He continued recording and performing into his 80s before his death in December 2020.

Since launching in 2025, the series has celebrated Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Charlie Daniels, Porter Wagoner, Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff, Hank Williams, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Don Williams.

Tickets are also available for Grand Ole Opry performances scheduled through December 2026.
